Personal-related data
Personal-related data in the sense of theGerman Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) encompasses individual details about personal and factual relations of a specific or specifiable natural person. In addition to the name, address, date of birth, profession and bank connection, these data also include information such as yourblood group or medical reports, but also data concerning your eventual interest or your donation behavior as well your surfing habits insofar as these data can be allocated to you personally in either a direct or indirect manner.
All of these data are subject to a special protection pursuant to theGerman Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) and other provisions for data protection which we ensure by means of technical and organizational measures. DKMS’ employees are obligated to maintain confidentiality in accordance with Section5 of the BDSG. Data protection and data security are therefore a top priority for each single employee of the DKMS and the protection of our donors’ personal-related data is a matter of particular importance for us.
Collection of personal-related data
The DKMS only collects, processes and makes use of your personal-related data tothe extent that is permissible legally in order to find suitable bone marrow donors and/or stem cell donors and to establish contact with you.
The DKMS is registered (as a non-public, responsible organization) with the Regional Federal Data Protection Commissioners in charge in Baden-Wuerttemberg. Pursuant to Section 38, para.2 of the BDSG, the Regional Federal Data Protection Commissioner administers a registerof the automated processings which are subject to registration in accordance with Section 4d, and it monitors adherence tothe data protection act.
If you register as a donor on our Internet site, subscribe to a newsletter, donate money or use other online forms, your data will be transmitted to us in an encrypted form in order to exclude access by unauthorized third parties. In principle, we store your data on specially protected servers. Access to personal data is only possible by a few, specially empowered employees of the DKMS who are all familiar with the authoritative data protection regulations.
If you visit our Facebook app “DKMS Save-a-life” we access only your Facebook ID and name. Your Facebook ID, name and score are stored in our database, with the sole purpose to create a high score list that is presented at the end of the game. During the game the Facebook IDs, names and photos of your friends are accessed and displayed to you; this information is not stored. The game can post a message on the walls of your friends, but this happens only upon your request.
Transmission of your personal-related data to third parties
The purpose of processing your data is to procure stem cell donors. Your donor data as well as the results ofthe tissue typing of your tissue characteristics which has been conducted so far will be transmitted in an anonymized formto national and/or international bone marrow donor registries. That signifies that only such data will be transmitted which are relevant for key decisions regarding the donor search. Essentially, this includes the donor number, gender, date of birth and tissue characteristics, the number of tissue typings conducted to date and the donor status in the sense of available or unavailable. Names, addresses or similar identifying data will not be transmitted.
In order to accomplish and fulfill our tasks, we must also cooperate with service providers who also receive personal-related data whenever necessary for this purpose. These service providers are contractually obligated through the DKMS to only make use of personal-related data which they obtain in this connection forthe allowed purpose. We assure you that we will not sell or lease your data to other companies or organizations. By no means will we use your e-mail address or other data without your consent for other purposes for which you have not granted any consent.
Storage of IP addresses and cookies
In order to call up websites of the DKMS, registration ofthe IP address is absolutely mandatory on short notice.The IPisthe globally valid, unique identification of a computer that consists of four number blocks separated by dots. In general, you will not use an IP address that remains the same as a private user because your provider only allocated this address to you temporarily for one session. Nevertheless, a clear allocation of the user data via this feature is, in principle, possible for static IP addresses.Our web server stores IP addresses for a maximum period of 24 hours. Afterwards, the access data will be anonymized.
Use of Google Analytics
On this website, the DKMS deploys Google Analytics, a web analysis service of Google Inc. ("Google"). Google Analytics uses so-called cookies, text files which are stored on the user’s computer and that allow an analysis ofthe usage of these websites by the visitors. The information generated by the cookie regarding the usageof this website (including the user’s IP address) is transmitted to a server of Google Inc. in the USA and stored there. Use of Google AdWords

In this context,Google assures that it will protect the data of itscustomers and users. When a user clicks on an ad, Google places a cookie on the user’s computer which will expire after a 30-day period. Google does not allocate a user’s search activity to his or her ad click protocol. Furthermore, Google does not collect or protocol any personal, identifying information whatsoever and it does not pass any personal information on to third parties. Users who do not want to participate in the tracking can deactivate the cookie of the Google Conversion Tracking on their Internet browser under user settings. These users will not be included in the conversion tracking statistics.
