PATIENT CARE

As the world‘s largest stem cell donor center we listen to patients too. If we are aware of your concerns and hardships, we can incorporate them in our daily work and get the ball rolling.

Please choose your topic

For many patients, DKMS is a point of contact after receiving the diagnosis of blood cancer or another blood disease. The questions tend to focus on finding a donor. In our capacity as a registry, we are very familiar with the processes and time frames of different examination stages on the donor side, and so the information we can provide is often very helpful for patients.

We listen to the questions of the patients and try to provide help on an individual basis. This can be, for instance, by contacting a self-help group or transplant clinics or by even referring them to an organization where the patients can find more support. With the informed consent and at the request of the patient, we also contact the doctor in charge of treatment or the search centers.

DKMS has published two Red Guidebooks for those diagnosed with the disease and their relatives which you can order from us free of charge. Here you will find detailed information on the help available to them (Red Guidebook Vol. 2) and information on the process of finding a stem cell donor (Red Guidebook Vol. 3).

Detailed information on the help available for patients is in our "Red Guidebooks“ (only available in German).

Life-affirming approach to the disease

In Germany, more than 200,000 women are diagnosed with cancer each year. Cancer treatment with chemotherapy or radiation therapy often leaves serious, although temporary, changes to the one's appearance: hair loss, loss of eyelashes and eyebrows, or skin irritations rob these women of their self-esteem and zest for life.

The free cosmetic seminar for female cancer patients offered by DKMS LIFE, a non-profit sister organization of DKMS is pursuing the goal of encouraging women with the disease to embrace life and the consequences of the treatment. In addition, the hair program for cancer female patients, featuring specially trained hairdressers, offers sensitive consultations for the disease's different stages.

More information on the
cosmetic seminar and the
hair program for female cancer patients is on the
website of DKMS LIFE.
