DKMS Deutsche Knochenmarkspendedatei gemeinnützige Gesellschaft mbH
One of the major partners backing DKMS is the perfume company, Coty Inc. Since 2006, the firm has been supporting DKMS financially and ideologically in the scope of a global partnership, such as by building up DKMS Americas. Coty has been continuing its commitment since February 2009. For the official inauguration of DKMS Poland in Warsaw, it not only provided premises and manpower, but it also organized the first company donor drive right on site. Plans call for this successful cooperation to be maintained forthe further internationalization of DKMS.
"With our large-scale, global network, we hope that our employees, partners, families and friends at Coty will take the opportunity to back such a meritorious matter," said Bernd Beetz, CEO of Coty Inc. "Just like each single person can make things move forward, for example, in our company, each donor registered or each dollar donated to DKMS can have an incredibly huge impact– namely, possibly saving lives." Coty Inc. opened up an opportunity for all employees to help in its worldwide locational network, with the global business partners, friends and families. The objective is to win over new, potential stem cell donors and to promote monetary donations.
In collaboration with DKMS Americas, Coty Inc. is serving as the main sponsor in organizing the annual leukemia gala"Linked Against Leukemia," in which over $2.5 million dollars were collected in 2011 alone.
The close connection between Coty Inc. and DKMS has existed ever since these companies were founded. That’s because the leukemia disease of Mechtild Harf, the wife of the former Coty CEO Peter Harf, led to the establishment of DKMS. Mechtild Harf did not survive the disease, but the fight against blood cancer was continued.
The German Hockey Association (DHB) has already forged a charity partnership quite a few years ago with DKMS. The partnership was kicked off at the BDO Hockey World Championship in the fall of 2006 in Mönchengladbach. At that time, the DKMS did not only inform the visitors about its work, but rather, the former managing director, Claudia Rutt, also presented a so-called "sign of life" (see logo on left-hand side) to the DHB.
Conversely, the hockey association committed itself to recruit a potential bone marrow donor for each WM goal scored by the German team and to take over the costs forthe tissue typing. Furthermore, the proceeds went to a SMS donor drive displayed on the large-scale video screen of the world championship stadium as a donation to the DKMS.
The cooperation was especially forged against the backdrop of the leukemia disease of Maike Schrader, the former national goalkeeper. "The partnership with DKMS is a matter of the heart for us," said Uschi Schmitz, former president of the DHB. "In sports, the positive sides of life are generally presented – health, success, performance. However, we have also witnessed at close hand that an Olympic leading organization cannot ignore the dark sides of life, especially with regard to Maike Schrader’s fight against her leukemia disease. We were already working closely with the DKMS at that time. Many hockey players subsequently had their tissue typed to show their solidarity with Maike. Shortly before she passed away, Maike expressed the wish that this commitment would continue for the many patients who are still waiting for a matching bone marrow donor. We are keeping that commitment with this charity partnership andwe hope that we will achieve even more together."
That’s why the DHB has continuously been supporting DKMS in its work since then: be it through an own hockey motive for a national billboard campaign of DKMS, or through various information booths and events, e.g, at the Bundestag of the DHB, the German indoor hockey championships, national games or the Hamburg Masters. In addition, the DHB has already held a fundraising gala to benefit DKMS and it continually enables ads to be placed in its own hockey magazines.
DKMS thanks the DHB for this fantastic and long-standing support and we look forward to the continued cooperation!
Going by the motto: "Defending health," the blood donation service ofthe German Armed Forces and DKMS has been conducting joint blood donation/blood group determination and donor drives at various sites ofthe Federal Armed Forces since the beginning of 2009. In that way, as many new potential stem cell donors should be won over as possible in order to help patients with blood cancer or other blood diseases of the hematopoietic cell system.
The inspector of the medical service and Generaloberstabsarzt (US equivalent is Surgeon General) Kurt-Bernhard Nakath, supports this cooperation. In a letter to the DKMS, he wrote: "The core of our contract and our self-understanding is to ease individual suffering and restore the health andquality of life in accordance with the definition of the WHO. When the Federal Armed Forces, the medical service ofthe Federal Armed Forces or individual soldiers can deliver a contribution to this goal […] this makes me proud and happy."
If you work forthe Federal Armed Forces and would like more information about the cooperation with the DKMS and the Federal Armed Forces or if you would like to be registered in the DKMS on-site, simply send us a request. We are happy to provide you with the current dates in your vicinity.
DKMS and the Malteser Emergency Aid forged a partnership on July 1, 2011 to acquire new stem cell donors. Both organizations are committed tothe provision of support and to the saving of lives and they place the very highest quality standards on their own activities. Based on these commonalities, the DKMS and Malteser have been working together continuously for many years now.
The cooperation will now be supplemented by a partnership set up over the long haul. The "stem cell donation" issue will become an integral component of the training courses of the Malteser for driver’s license candidates, people just starting their careers in the nursing care and social professions, etc. The trainers of the Malteser will receive training from the DKMS and they will then offer the registration per buccal swabs in their courses.
The DKMS and the Malteser are convinced that, in this way, numerous people can be motivated to make themselves available as lifesavers for leukemia patients.
For many years now, Telekom has actively been supporting the core focus of DKMS: finding the matching stem cell donor for each single blood cancer! The beginnings of the cooperation date back to 1994. Since then, DKMS has developed rapidly into the world’s largest stem cell donor center today with more than 2.5 million potential stem cell donors registered and over 25,000 stem cell transplantations conducted.
60 life donors give hope for a new life
However, this success would not have been possible without the ideological and financial support of committed companies like Telekom. The communications service provider continually carries out company donor drives Germany-wide for the benefit of DKMS. In the meantime, Horst Winner already marks the 7,000th Telekom employee who has registered as a donor in the DKMS. Maybe he will also soon be one of the nearly 60 Telekom donors who have already become lifesavers thanks to their stem cell donation.
Telekom also supports DKMS financially on a sustainable basis. For example, Telekom employees had the opportunity during a Christmas donor drive to distribute a predetermined donation amount to six non-profit organizations. Thanks to this employee voting alone, DKMS was granted EUR 138,500. Stephan Schumacher, director of new donor acquisition and marketing at DKMS, underscored during the latest donor awards ceremony in Bonn: "We have been counting Telekom as one of our key supporters for many years now. Without the backing of companies like this, DKMS would not be capable of giving more than 4,000 persons a chance for life today!"

The shoes are available in sizes 26 to 42. And by the way: the cheerful and colorful clogs let medical personnel in particular bring a cheery atmosphere to clinics and general practices!

HYMER has been supporting DKMS in the fight against blood cancer since January 2012. To mark the company’s 50th anniversary, HYMER is providing DKMS with a HYMER car sporting the cooperation design to use as a mobile registration vehicle. HYMER is not only encouraging those in its own ranks to become potential stem cell donors but also those attending nationwide events sponsored by its commercial partners.
At the time of registration € 50 is due to cover the DKMS lab costs. In order to cover these costs, both TeeGschwendner and VOM FASS are involved as part of the cooperation with HYMER. Both these companies are donating part of their sales proceeds to DKMS.
HYMER is providing blood cancer patients and their relatives with a motorhome until the end of 2012 to enable them to escape the oftentimes worrisome daily life. Depending on availability, this can be used for holiday trips within Europe and booked free of charge through HYMER.
TeeGschwendner, a strong and long-standing partner of DKMS, is supporting the cooperation between HYMER and DKMS with the sale of a special product. The “Einer für alle – DKMS Retterpaket” [One for All – DKMS Life-Saver Package] is available in participating TeeGschwendner shops and in the online shop. For every package sold the company donates 0.50 Euro to DKMS.
You can now also support DKMS in the fight against leukemia as part of the premium program, Shell CLUBSMART – because Shell and DKMS are now partners for life!
It works like this: Shell CLUBSMART members collect points for each liter of fuel they fill up and they can now also donate these to DKMS. With regard to the amount of the donation, you can choose between EUR 10, EUR 25 or EUR 50.
In this very easy way, each person can deliver a major contribution tothe fight against blood cancer and financially support the search for a matching lifesaver for blood cancer patients! Pitch in to help with your point donation, too! For more information, click on www.shellsmart.com
A very special partnership interlinks DKMS with the Steigenberger Hotel Group. Since April 2007, members of the Steigenberger Award World premium program can also convert the points they’ve collected into a donation to DKMS.
In this way, the Steigenberger Hotel Group helps to drive the continued expansion of DKMS forward. For further information, please also go to www.steigenbergerhotelgroup.com
The rainforest project with the WWF’s Rainforest Foundation made Krombacher the pioneer in the social engagement issue in 2002. As part of the donation offensive in 2006, the company ultimately aimed to broaden the donor drive radius and support numerous projects in parallel. Krombacher opted to also have DKMS and the German Children’s Relief Organization as partners in addition to WWF.
For DKMS, this partnership translates into the chance to attract substantial attention and to further boost awareness of the brand. Furthermore, Krombacher targets male and young target groups which are extremely important for DKMS since these groups are often in particularly high demand by transplantation clinics and bone marrow and stem cell donors.
